The Rev OD'd

It was an overdose ... an accidental overdose. It's being reported now that Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, Avenged Sevenfold's drummer, died of an occidental overdose in December of last year. More specifically, Sullivan died from “acute polydrug intoxication due to combined effects of Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Diazepam/Nordiazepam and ethanol,” according to the Orange County coroner. After The Revs death, Dream Theater Drummer Michael Portnoy stepped up to the plate. Avenged Sevnfold will be headlining the WQLZ Capital City Rock Fest August 13th at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.

Protesting BP

You've been hearing about a slew of artists boycotting the Arizona immigration legislation, but Korn is taking their protest boycotts to the Gulf of Mexico and in particular protesting British Petroleum. The band is refusing to refuel their tour buses and rigs with BP gas and encouraging other touring artists to do the same this summer. Korn front man Jonathan Davis said that if the punishment for BP is strong enough, then they'll spend more money to ensure this type of thing doesn't happen again. “It's plain and simple capitalism.”

Streaming Ozzy

It was supposed to be the title track for Ozzy's new album, but fans rejected the name “Soul Sucka.” Now, the song that fans didn't want the album named after is available for streaming. “Soul Sucker” can be streamed online for the next five days at this location (fast forward the program to 1 hour 26 minutes). Or you can just stream the track online below.

Noon today

Want to hear the intro track to Stone Sour's forthcoming album? Hell, you want to download the song for free, legitimately? Beginning at noon today and then for the next few days only, you can download the track “Mission Statement” at Stone Sour's website. Meanwhile, a third video of unreleased material performed live has surfaced online. Check out the fan shot video for “Digital.”

Shiprocked clarification

A quick clarification to yesterday's Music Minute about Shiprocked 2010—Money will be raised for cancer, but cruise ticket sales have nothing to do with that. The cruises' crew, however, will be taking donations on board to benefit cancer research in honor of the late Ronnie James Dio.
