Big show at the PCCC

According to a blog from the State Journal Register, there's a pretty big lineup coming to Springfield this summer ... and we're not talking about the lineup for the Illinois State Fair. Nope, it's not a throwback of classic rock bands or even the latest country acts or American Idol rejects either. Come August 13th, the Prairie Capital Convention Center will be host to seven hardcore metal bands, and you better plan on going. Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour, Hellyeah, Sick Puppies, Halestorm, Hail the Villain, and New Medicine will all be sharing the stage at the PCCC. General admin tickets go on sale this Saturday for $46 at all Ticketmaster locations or at the PCCC box office. These bands all have intense tunes and an awesome stage presence.

Several of the bands also bring some baggage with them with the death of people part of or close to the groups. Avenged Sevenfold's drummer, Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, recently passed away just before the band was to finish recording a new album. Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy picked up the mantle to help record and tour with the band. Meanwhile Stone Sour will feature Jim Root and Corey Taylor of Slipknot. Speaking of Slipknot ... the maggot army lost one of their top generals, bassist Paul Gray, this past Monday. The 8 remaining members of maniacal 9 held an unmasked press conference where they expressed their sadness and sorrow at the passing of Paul. Meanwhile Taylor and Root's side project Stone Sour is wrapping up their most recent album, the first since 2006s “Come What(ever) May.” Peoria native Mudvayne front man Chad Grey and guitarist Greg Tribbet will be bringing Hellyeah to the stage with Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul.
