Paul is dead

It's a sad day for metal yet again. Slipknot lost their bassist Paul Gray. His body was found in a hotel room yesterday morning outside of Des Moins, Iowa, where most of the band grew up. The 38-year-old was known for his menacing Hannibal Lecter-type mask and his very tall and sturdy stature. Having been born in LA, Gray moved to Iowa and eventually hooked up with the other 8 members of what is now known as Slipknot. The band gained critically acclaimed success quickly after their 1999 self-titled release. With their grotesque masks, dark lyrics, and energy packed stage show they ensured that a devoted fan base would follow them around the country and the world. Sadly, there are reports that Paul is leaving behind a wife pregnant with their first child. Police claim there was no sign of foul play. This could be an overdose of some kind as Gray had admitted to being on drugs when he got into a car accident a few years ago. Police say prescription drugs were found in the hotel room. Toxicology tests are planed for this week. Slipknot had been taking time away from writing and touring while drummer Joey Jordison works with Murderdolls and vocalist Corey Taylor works with Stone Sour. In April it was announced that Gray would be joining the band Hail!, replacing David Ellefson. Ellefson was scheduled to hit the road with Megadeth. Hail! Manager Mark Abbattista said he spoke to Gray over the weekend and had a great conversation. They talked about gear, travel, set lists and the most fun way to un-mask Gray on stage. The rock world is remembering Paul and his role in the band that changed the metal world as we know it.
