Rogers declines, Tyler could sue

The Aerosmith saga continues and the temperature may get jacked up a notch. The Pulse of Radio is reporting that guitarist Joe Perry, who has been the spokesperson of the band ever since Steven Tyler has been off the radar in rehab for addiction to pain killers, has asked Paul Rogers of Bad Company to fill in for the band. Rogers, when asked, said it was a great surprise and completely out of the blue, but if a Bad Company reunion were to happen this year, Rogers would rather focus on that. Meanwhile a new report indicates that there could be a lawsuit if someone fills in for Tyler without his approval. Billboard.com reports that Tyler's attorney has “fired” off a “cease and desist” letter to Aerosmith's manager saying that this will harm the band and it's members. The letter not only states the possibility of monetary damages being sought, but also calls for a meeting of Aerosmith's “shareholders” to discuss this issue and others, including recording a new album.

Arrests and awards

About 120 Chileans were arrested outside a Metallica concert last week. Apparently a crowd of people were trying to get into the sold-out South American concert and when they were stopped from entering, unruly behavior ensued. Arrests included disorderly conduct, drug possession and drinking in public. One police officer was injured. Speaking of Metallica and South America, the band received Gold and Platinum records in Brazil for 2008's “Death Magnatic” and a DVD of a concert in Mexico. Other awards over the weekend: AC/DC beat out Metallica, Alice in Chains, Linkin Park and Nickleback to claim Best Hard Rock Performance Grammy while Judas Priest snagged the Best Metal Performance Grammy away from Lamb of God, Megadeth, Ministry, and Slayer.
