WMAY Talk-a-thon

970 WMAY accomplished a 13 hour talk-a-thon to raise money for the Illinois Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. During the broadcast Friday May 14, 2010 at Leann's Parkway Cafe on N. Dirksen Parkway, the many hosts raised $7,200 from listeners for the Red Cross. During the broadcast, several hosts microphones were turned off and they were compelled to wear turkey suits and other non-flattering costumes in exchange for donations. Marine Bank matched dollar for dollar, up to $3,000, for the talk-a-thon.
