February 20, 2012 Music News from the Rock Station, 92-7 WQLZ by Bishop Round two
Must clarify So, remember the comments that Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl made during an acceptance speech at the Grammy Awards the other weekend. He said something to the effect of his band’s winning awards shows that real music, not the stuff that highly polished using advanced software and auto-tune, is still worthy of recognition. His comments seemed to be a stab at all the tripe there is today in the pop music market. Well now Grohl fells it necessary to clarify—he likes the little mistakes in music, it makes it feel more human. He also says that he loves all music and that musicians use different tools to do what they do. Grohl’s 33-second acceptance rant talking about music that comes from the heart prompted a bunch of rage-filled postings online. I think he was right on to point out that Pop music sucks. Show brief Sustainability ... a ruse for Agenda 21? Iran propaganda, voter fraud and News on the March--get it all with Saturday Session tonight on 970 WMAY, The News and Talk of Springfield. Listen live from 3 to 7p CST over the airwaves in central Illinois' AM dial 970 or online at www.WMAY.com and also through the Tune In Ap, just search for "WMAY". Agenda 21 Are you familiar with the United Nations plan for global "sustainability"? You may have heard some ramblings here and there from the "conspiracy theorists" about this particular plan--which is posted on the United Nations' official website. What is in it? What does it say about individual rights. Is it good for individuals or communitarian in principle and practice? Listen tonight to get an overview of Agenda 21 and what it means for your city or town. Does the upcoming S-DAT study coming to Springfield, Illinois, have anything to do with Agenda 21? War propaganda If there were ever a time for war with Iran being on the tipping point it would be now. Has the war already started? With the assassination of several Iranian nuclear scientists and supposed "Iran" plots being broken up by anti-terror authorities, the war has already started ... it's just unclear from which side instigated the conflict. How is the war with Iran being sold for public support by the west and by Israel. Who will lead the fight? Israel, the US, NATO, The UN. What role does Syria play in all of this? Election fraud Alright, for real? Are you falling for this? Are you a chump that buys the current goings-on in Maine, in Nevada and elsewhere? This is getting to be a bit much. Denial that there is voter fraud is a fatal error for this constitutional republic. Several counties will hold their caucuses after they were canceled a few weeks ago in Maine, a state that, according to the Maine GOP, went to Romney with around 80% reported. The remaining votes matter and can change the outcome ... but the PR effect of a Romney "W" has already been put out there. Why does that matter? Because it's a trick. You can't take communication back. We'll see what happens tonight! News on the March There is so much to cover with News on the March that it is virtually impossible to fit it all in, but as with any venture it's never going to happen unless you make it happen. Along with a ton of other stories, we'll cover the recent sentencing of the "Underwear Bomber" and how that has a connection to a woman being asked to go through a full body scanner three times at a Texas Airport. Also, Chicago police say they don't plan on shutting down online and cell networks during the G8/NATO summits ... but they're also not taking it off the table. Those are just a few of the stories we'll cover. Join in during News on the March with stories that you think went "under-covered" from the past week. Let's face it, when the lead story from the network news is Whitney Houston's funeral, you know you're not being told what is really going on in your world. Take part in News on the March by calling in live at 217.629.7970 or emailing Bishop@WMAY.com Contact Saturday Session airs every Saturday from 3 to 7 PM CST on 970 WMAY, the News and Talk of Springfield. Together again When Guns N’ Roses are inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in April, they’ll do so with every past member by Axl’s side. It’s still unclear if there will be a performance with all the members. Keyboardists Dizzy Reed says he’s “just going to go in with a good attitude and a clear head and grateful heart.” Let’s just hope Axl does the same thing. On the other hand … I’m hoping for a complete burn out at the ceremony, ‘cause who doesn’t like rock star drama? Taking a look at the charts Black Keys’ El Camino is still riding high at No. 14 with Nickleback’s Here and Now at No 18 after being on the charts for eleven weeks. Lamb of God has had a nice showing for their most recent attempt. It got up to No. 3 on the charts but has slid down to No. 27 this week. Five Finger Death Punch is all the way down at No. 67 with their album American Capitalist and Korn’s Path of Totality slid down to No. 77 after peaking at No. 10. Of course these are all from the Billboard Top 200 which also incorporates a bunch of tripe like Madonna and Kidz Bop compilations. Box of farts (w/ video) So what rituals does Mastodon perform before taking the stage for a live show? “Ultimately it’s a giant box of farts.” U.K.’s Rock Sound magazine caught up with the Atlanta based progressive metal band before they took the stage in Manchester last week. The band explains what they do before shows which includes being at the venue at 8 or 9 in the morning, having everything loaded by noon and then sitting around until the final moments before taking the stage, band members will start warming up. Real exciting, huh? Catch Mastodon on Carson Daily February 20th. Catch the Music Minute every weekday with the Free Beer and Hot Wings Show on 92-7 WQLZ, the Rock Station |

It’s not puberty; it’s just the way she goes ... it’s the way of the road. Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger says his voice has changed in the ten years since his band made their debut to the world. You may be able to notice it by going back to the earlier recordings and comparing them to more recent ones. Kroeger says that he notices changes even throughout a regular day. When recording Kroeger told the Associated Press that he’ll lay down one vocal track and then take a break for lunch. After lunch he’ll head back to the sound booth, record another track and the engineer will play the two together and the tone will be completely different. That leads this observer to think it’s all the money and fame he’s eating for lunch. Those Benjamins can do quite the number on your larynx.
The ongoing saga of the Bret Michaels Tony Awards debacle continues now with a new wrinkle. A cross suit has been filed in the case. Here’s a refresher—back in 2009 Michaels was performing during the Tony Awards. Part of the show involved a stage piece that moved down as the set was done. Michaels walked head first into the set piece and about knocked himself out.
It’s awesome when artists get upset with record companies for overpricing specials like box sets. Motorhead is freaking out over the price of their box set. Typically a band wants you to buy their albums, but this time Motorhead knows gouging when they see it! The Complete Early Years Box Set has just come out from the record company that owns the rights and they’re asking a whopping $600 for it! Lemmy said that once again greed “rears its yapping head.” He also is urging the most diehard fans to boycott the box set. Instead, why not pick up Motorhead’s latest CD/DVD titled The World Is Yours & The World Is Ours Not too long ago, Elvis Costello encouraged his fans to boycott the box set put out by a record company independent of Costello’s will. He said the $200 to $300 price was either a mistake or satire. Really, these stories are sad examples of how artists can be taken advantage of by record companies.

Slayer will make Slayer albums, not collabs with forgotten rockers. It’s been a while since we’ve heard some good criticism of that Metallica/Lou Reed abomination … ‘er, I mean compilation. Maybe that’s why Slayer’s front man Tom Araya said during a recent interview that Lulu was Metallica’s way of “trying to be cool.” Araya went on to talk about how Reed was a bit avant garde for Metallica and that the combination of the two just did not fit. Rest assured, Araya says Slayer would never do anything along those lines. The Slayer singer admitted to not have spun the album and says he doesn’t have a desire too.
Told ya some of the numbers on the Billboard charts yesterday. Well the new numbers are out and Van Halen fared very well, but not as well as some thought they would. The band’s first album in over a decade, A Different Kind of Truth, sold a whopping 187,000 copies. That’s about where industry experts projected the numbers, but it wasn’t enough to get the top spot. A Different Kind of Truth landed at No. 2. The top spot went to British vocalist Adele for album 21 which has been selling gangbusters. For the week of February 12, Adele’s album sold 237,000 copies. That’s 50,000 more than Van Halen. She’s been at the top of the charts for going on 20 weeks. The charts are very moody. They fluctuate depending on celebrity circumstance. For instance—someone else who has had a very successful week on the charts—Whitney Houston. Her greatest hits landed at No. 6. Reports indicate her album sales have jumped 6,000% since she was found dead. Unreal.
Haven’t been able to tell you about the latest Marilyn Manson news. The Goth icon told a radio station out of Cleveland that he has a new single in the works that will be out in May. The song is called “No Reflection” and the album will be Born Villan May is quite a ways to wait for fans, but the wait has been made even more sweet knowing that the shock-rocker will be taking the show on the road. Manson used the day of love Tuesday to let the world know he’ll be in a town near you … well, kinda. With 18 shows spanning across the country, Manson will be in Des Moines, Iowa May 8th ... that’s about as close as they’ll be to central Illinois. We’ll keep you posted on any more dates that open up.
