Hey, Brittany did it!

So why can't the Sex Pistols? The revolutionary, short-lived punk band featuring Johnny Rotten will soon release a scent that hopefully won't smell as bad as Johnny's last name sounds. The company that hooked up with the band to create the fragrance says the supposedly smell-good spritz is “a fresh, restless bite of lemon, sharpened and intensified by deviant black pepper. It's the unruly turbulence of a prune and an in-your-face ambrette.” So, with the holiday season just around the corner, be sure to buy this novelty fragrance for the Sex Pistol fan in your life … or you could just buy some as a gag gift, cause surely the smell will make you wanna gag.

Cridersville, Snidersville

Speaking of stuff being named after over-the-top rockers, come August 21st, Cridersville, Ohio, will change its name to Snidersville, Ohio. You heard that right. The small town in Ohio is changing its name to honor Twisted Sister front man Dee Snider. The official name change will take place during the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies fundraiser in Cridersville. Dee will be on hand as an official spokesperson for the March of Dimes and surely he'll be there to help officially change the town's name to Snidersville. Of course, this will probably be worked into some kind of reality TV segment for Dee's A&E show “Growing Up Twitsted.” If you want more details on the charity Snider fronts, be sure to stop by the site BikersforBabies.com.

It wasn't Axl's fault

So, there was a bit of a problem during Friday's show at the Rock 'N Rev festival for the 70th Sturgis Bike Rally. Apparently the Guns 'N Roses concert that was supposed to start at 11 Friday night didn't get started for an hour and a half later … and everybody blamed Axl. The crowd also got to the point where they were throwing cans and bottles at the stage. Well the record must be set strait, it wasn't his fault! One of the festival's founders told the Rapid City Journal that there was a technical issue that was being worked out that caused the late start. Last year's Sturgis marked the moment when Aerosmith's Steven Tyler fell off the stage prompting cancellations and rehab. Still no word yet if Guns 'N Roses will cancel any future shows and start looking for a new singer.

TV has gone 3D

And Jane's Addiction is all over it. The second episode of “Guitar Center Sessions” in 3D will feature Perry Farrell and the boys for a studio session. Of course, you have to have the premium high definition TV and satellite channel from DirecTV, but you got some time to either buy all that stuff or just find a new friend with cool toys. Though it was filmed in May, the show featuring some acoustic performances and interviews, will air in September. Surely this is just the beginning of 3D home entertainment, so you should start saving now so you can be the cool kid on the block. Give me a call when you do get that TV! I'll bring the drinks!

Rockin' weekend

What a weekend for rock in central Illinois! Last night, the weather was near perfect for the Illinois State Fair grandstands act featuring Chevelle opening up for Shinedown. If you've got pictures of the show, be sure to share them on WQLZ's Facebook page for all to see. Speaking of the Fair Grounds, don't forget, WQLZ will be out at the Coors Light Entertainment Tent all week long with the Monsters of Moch lineup. Tonight, we'll hear from the Bon Jovi tribute band Dead Or Alive and Silver Bullet, a tribute to Bob Seger. It all starts at 3 this afternoon with DJ Bird pumping some tunes while you enjoy some ice cold drinks.

No rain check for Rockfest

Friday at the fairgrounds, the weather caused some serious problems for the sold-out Lady Antebellum show that was actually canceled because of the weather. But Friday downtown at the Prairie Capital Convention Center, the show went on regardless of the storms that rushed through. The Capital City Rockfest was hours upon hours of rock with a killer set and an awesome pyro stage-show from Avenged Sevenfold. Very few people knew about this, so you should feel privileged reading (or hearing) this. Though Disturbed did not play at Rockfest, they were in town days before Friday's show rehearsing for the Uproar Festival they are currently out on the road headlining with Avengened Sevenfold, Stone Sour and Hellyeah. Let's just hope Rockfest kick-starts Springfield being a must stop location for rock-tours and acts! Again, got some pics? Share them on the WQLZ Facebook page!

Saturday Session with Bishop

August 14, 2010

Your three hours of influence is on Saturday evenings from 4 to 7p CST. Catch the most controversial local political-theory weekend talk-show only on 970 WMAY, The News and Talk of Springfield. Tonight, Saturday Session will cover News on the March, the real secret societies you should worry about, Wikileaks under attack from all sides, Photography is Not A Crime, and more.

News on the March

Here are just a few of the stories that News on the March will cover: Ahmadinejad has some interesting things to say about 9/11, the Pentagon needs to tighten it's belt, Federal Employees earn 30 to 40 percent more $ than those in the private sector, Pakistan floods out of control, Gitmo trials get interesting, Stevens is dead and O'keefe is seriously injured, bailout for teacher's unions, and what's this about how you can't send smokes to the troops? Oh, how can we forget the comments from Robert Gibbs earlier this week about drug testing those who say Obama is Bush on steroids? Well, I guess everyone at the ACLU should start filling up some cups. These stories and so many more will be shared on the air with Saturday Session. As always, you can get all the stories and some Bishop can't get to because of time, with Bishop's Shared items.

The real secret societies

There have been so many attacks on Rand Paul, the son of former republican presidential candidate and current Texas congressman Ron Paul. Ever since his overwhelming nomination as the republican Senate Candidate for Kentucky where he beat out the establishment candidate, the media has been on a direct assault of his character. It's now to the point where elite magazines are printing stories with anonymous sources saying that Paul was in a college "secret society" where he took part in crazy rituals and forced people to take drugs. Hear what Paul has to say about the whole deal. Also, find out the real secret societies that you should know about!

Under attack

Wikileaks has been in the spotlight nonstop for the past year and it will only get more intense for the whistle-blower website. Not only is the Pentagon encouraging its allies to do what they can to limit the strength of Wikileaks, they are also under fire from Reporters Without Borders for their leaked documents. What will Wikileaks likely do in the face of intense criticism and threats to their modus operandi? Oh, and Wikileaks has about 15,000 more documents they will be releasing soon.

Fight for your right to ... take pictures

Photography is not a crime! Plain and simple! People in public have no expectation of privacy and therefor should not expect that their conversations or images on public streets should held confidential. That includes police officers and buildings. Surely there is a line where the law won't allow you to cross, but that is only in the case of perverts doing perverted things. If you want to take a picture of a building, do it! If you want to take a picture of a police officer on the streets (in uniform or not) do it! As long as you are not obstructing justice and/or hindering an ongoing investigation, you can take those pictures! Carlos Miller's blog, Photography Is Not A Crime, is an excellent resource to keep up with when the rights of a free press are concerned.

Back from the dead

After taking the 2009 touring season off, the world will witness a revamping of Ozzfest tomorrow. But, it will not be as extensive as Ozzfests have been in the past. Ozzy will be joined by Motley Crue, Black Label Society and Rob Halford's solo act Halford, among others including Nonpoint. With only 6 dates across the country there has been a ton of criticism from all circles. Halford contends that people fly from all over the world to see Ozzfest and he believes that will be the case this time around. If you want to see the show, the closest place is Tinley Park in Chicago August 17th.

The Big Four minus two

The Big Four played a few shows overseas and there was speculation that they'd bring the epic show to the states for a cross country tour … but that's not the case. Instead, Megadeth and Slayer launched their own tour earlier this week. American Carnage will hit up Chicago August 20th at the UIC Pavilion.

Tonight's the night

Tonight, Springfield's face will get rocked off as the Prarie Capital Convention Center fills up with metal-heads pumped for the Capital City Rockfest! Head downtown tonight to see Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour, Hellyeah, Sick Puppies, Halestorm, Hale the Villian, Janus, and My Darkest Days. You seriously need to secure your tickets as soon as possible. Call the PCCC box office at 217.544.9400 to ensure you can get in tonight. WQLZ will broadcast live from the Convention Center for all the exclusive details.

Rock relic missing

It's not every day that someone gets their hands on a classic rock relic like Tony Iommi's custom Gibson SG guitar. But, that's apparently what happened. According to a Black Sabbath fan site, the signature and unique guitar was stolen from a Heaven & Hell tribute concert in London July 24th where the boys from the band were paying special tribute to the late great Ronnie James Dio. So, if you see Tony's guitar pop up on eBay, you may either want to buy it right up as soon as possible and hold on to it till its value goes up exponentially or you could be a downer and contact the authorities or Iommi's webmaster.

Three versions

Stone Sour is offering up several different editions of their forthcoming album, “Audio Secrecy.” Pre-orders are going on now online. Be sure to get the limited-edition so that you can get the limited-edition bonus tracks. You can also shoot for the special-edition that will include the three bonus tracks and a DVD with a 45-minute in studio documentary and videos of three songs performed live at the UK Download Festival. Corey Taylor, James Root and the others from Stone Sour will be in Springfield Friday with Avenged Sevenfold, Hellyeah, Hailstorm and others for the Capitol City Rockfest at the PCCC.

Single of metal

Judas Priest fans will be happy about this one. Rob Halford new band Halford has released a new single. You can swing by HalfordMusic.com to download the new tune “Made of Metal.” Purchasing the tune will allow you to get an animated video for the track as well.

How much longer?

So, last week news broke directly from Ozzy's mouth that a Black Sabbath reunion is in the works, but there was no timetable as to when that would happen. It was mentioned in passing during some radio interview with Ozzy last week that the band would do the ultimate Sabbath album and tour. Now Ozzy is saying that the reunion won't be happening for about another year or two.

And the winner of the world's greatest drummer is ...

About a week ago, “Rhythm” magazine began a poll of its readers to find out who the world's greatest drummer is from the past 25 years. Out of 102,000 poll participants, 37 percent voted for, non other than, Slipknot's drummer Joey Jordison. Dream Theater, and current Avengend Sevenfold drummer, Mike Portnoy was a close 2nd with Dave Grohl falling in 4th place (see the full list here). If you've had the privilage of seeing Slipknot live, especially back in/around 2005 when Joey pulled the whole Tommy Lee drum solo with a twist, it's easy to understand why Jordison was bestowed this honor. Take that Carl Buford!

Bloody show

Finally, who's up for going to GWAR? The out-of-this-world band takes their “Bloddy Tour of Horror” show to Pops in Sauget October 28th!

New vs. unreleased

There is new Soundgarden! Stories and blogs online have hinted that there is an unreleased Soundgarden song. Well, the record must be set strait. This is new Soundgarden! You see, the difference between previously unreleased and new is previously unreleased means the song was recorded years ago and kept in a vault. That's not the case with this new song … well kinda. A new Soundgarden song that is going around is being compared to an old screen play that has been on the shelf for sometime, just with some fresh revisions. The new tune's guitars and vocals were just recorded making it indeed a new and fresh song. So, with that out in the open, it is safe to say that there will soon be new Soundgarden before we know it! Don't forget to secure a copy of the penultimate collection of Soundgarden classics, and some previously unreleased … I mean new songs. “Telephantasm” will be out September 28th.

Changing the way business is done

Rob Zombie gets it. Not many artists do, but Zombie joins the small list of those who do. People just don't want to buy music anymore, Zombie recently said. The horror rocker proclaimed that his last album would be the last CD he would release because the medium is dead. He told AOL's Noisecreep that there is “a different way to do business that's really sort of like the old way of doing things.” Zombie then referred to the 50s and 60s where artists weren't putting out albums, but rather 3 or 4 songs at a time. Something that Zombie proposed is for the band to write and release a handful of songs while out on the road, releasing them online, all to keep fans energized. Meanwhile, Zombie will join Alice Cooper and label mates Murderdolls for a Halloween Hootenanny tour. Basically it is the Gruesome Twosome tour revamped. You can catch the show October 7th down at the Family Arena in St. Charles, MO, or October 8th in Bloomington. On a related note, Murderdolls has new stuff on the way and you can get a bizarre preview of their new song “Summertime Suicide” below.

A little bit of back and forth, that's all

They looked like two old hens bitching about the weather, but they were two rock stars making amends on the mainstream media. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith have been the center of rock and roll attention once again, and for good reason. They appeared together on several news shows, and in particular Fox News where the tough questions were asked. It never fails that there is some conflict between the two. You've got the recent back-and-forth between the lead vocals and the lead guitarist, you know like the whole rehab thing, and the maybe-looking-for-a-new-singer-thing, and how could we forget about the most recent spat about American Idol. Tyler said Perry has this “LSD thing … The Lead, Strum, Disorder … we've just played so long together, it's just fighting and making up. Fighting and making up.” Joking about drugs won't make us forget about your problems, Steven! It's been a long relationship and there are times when the band fades out and then gets back into the spotlight. The band has been together for 40 years, and yes, there is another album in the works.

Should have thought ahead

Alice Cooper may not have realized the limits of the internet or the height of his fame! AliceCooper.com crashed over the weekend, and throughout all of last week, when an unknown number of submissions flooded the site. The site was accepting submissions of “Sideshows and Freaks.” The servers seemed to be going in and out time and again throughout all of last week surely giving fans who submitted material some frustration. Fans were encouraged to submit their own videos of “sideshows and freaks” in hopes to take part in Cooper's Halloween Night of Fear shows scheduled in London. The IT team for the site has been working nonstop throughout the week and over the weekend, but even if the site was ready to go and accept submissions, the live tryouts are today. Way to plan and execute, Team Alice! Yeah … This may be an epic fail. Sorry for your luck, guys. You really should have allowed for more time … just sayin'.

Saturday Session with Bishop

August 07, 2010

Your three hours of influence is on Saturday evenings from 4 to 7p CST. Catch the most controversial local political-theory weekend talk-show only on 970 WMAY, The News and Talk of Springfield. Tonight, Saturday Session will cover News on the March, Gulf redux, Wars and rumors of wars, Wikileaks and so much more.

Interview

In the 5 o'clock hour, Matt Robbins of American Majority will join the show to discuss Obama-care doing battle in Missouri. What happened that 70 percent of the electorate decided to vote down the requirement for citizens to purchase a good or a service? What does this mean for November? How can this momentum be propelled further to end intrusive surveillance, wars, corruption? Find out tonight with Matt Robbins.

News on the March

From Prop. 8 being overturned in California to the Mosque and Islamic Center being proposed in Manhantten, there is a lot of hate out there. Should we not treat others as we would like to be treated? Another "sleeper cell" was busted in New York, get the details tonight with Session! There are bunch of proposals out there to keep an eye on you for your own safety, but do they go to far? Also, what are your thoughts about illegal immigrants' children being born in the US? Should they have citizenship status? It's reported Google and Verizon are working to end net neutrality, but the giants deny that. These stories and others with News on the March!

Gulf Redux

The well is capped! But don't let that fool you. The environmental disaster still looms. Reports say the seafood will be safe, but how do they know the long-term effects? What about the oil dispersant, and the under-the-surface plumes scientists talked about? Has that just fallen of the face of the MSM? Officials with both the government and BP continue to put out conflicting numbers and reports on just how big the spill was. Also the question of whether that site is now closed permanently or if BP will continue drilling is still up in the air.

Wars ...

... and rumors of wars! Iraq withdrawal date ... that's a good one! Obama is touting a draw down of US troops as something he campaigned on and implemented, but it was a policy carried over from the Bush administration. Plus, even if all combat forces are out of there, there are still embassies that will have to be protected and guess who will get those contracts? That's right! Privately contracted mercenaries! Also, tensions continue to grow between the West and Iran.

Wikileaks

The Pentagon has had just about enough of Wikileaks. This week, the intelligence complex barred those employed by the Pentagon to visit the controversial site. The Department of Defense is also ordering Wikileaks to stop releasing documents and to turn over everything they have! Meanwhile the suspected leaker of the infamous "Collateral Murder" video, 22-year-old Bradley Manning, is in solitary confinement and it's revealed a company payed with tax-payer dollars to spy on you helped capture the suspected leaker. The question is still out there as to how Wikileaks will change the face of war and how people perceive the current state of affairs. Get the latest Wikileaks talk only with Saturday Session.

Finton Files

If you missed last week's exclusive, be sure to get the podcast update from earlier this week. The story, to include Michael Finton's story and info about the Joint Terrorism Task Force's operations, is being optioned out to several national magazines in hopes to get published.
